MEPIELAN Research Assistant



Ilias Diamantopoulos is a Research Assistant in MEPIELAN Center.

He holds a Bachelor Degree in International and European Studies “Excellent” from the Panteion University of Athens, Greece (2022) in which he majored in the field of Public International Law. During his studies in the Department of International and European Studies he had the chance to write several academic papers, e.g., “Effects of underdevelopment in Central and South America and the Caribbean: the case of Chile”, “The Dispute Settlement process in ICAO”, “International Law Commission and the phenomenon of fragmentation of International Law”, “The SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation”. Within the context of his Bachelor Degree, Ilias was chosen as an Erasmus scholar in the Law School of Leibniz University Hannover, Germany (2020-2021), where he specialized in the Law of the European Union.
From February 2022 to April 2022, Ilias conducted an internship at the A7 Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which is in charge of political relations between Greece and the countries of North America, Latin America and the Caribbean. During his time in the Directorate he assisted in the exercise of the duties of the diplomatic staff while also following the latest developments in the countries under the jurisdiction of the Directorate. Among others, on behalf of the diplomatic staff, he accomplished to present the following research papers: “LAC Countries and the Law of the Sea” and “LAC Countries and Sustainable Development”.
In the context of his extracurricular activities, Ilias has written several articles of international interest for research centers including those under the following titles: “The rising humanitarian crisis in Burkina Faso”, “Africa: Inequalities and their role in the fight against poverty”, “Al Bashir Case”, “Projects of Common Interest under European Law”. He has, also, attended numerous seminars dealing with sustainable development issues in the light of International Law. Being a huge enthusiast for the 17 SDGs, he has participated in a Study Group in Panteion University in which he introduced his proposals related to the application of the SDGs in the university campus.
